Do any of you know the school's policy for dismissing class for winter weather. I am looking ahead to the winter storm warning for Thursday night and Friday and wondering if there is any chance they would dismiss classes on Friday. I do not want my daughter to be up there without power over the weekend and I sure don't want her to try to drive home on icy, snow covered streets. I would much rather her leave on Thursday afternoon when her classes are over.

I would think after the ice storm of 2009 they would have a plan in place. Classes did cancel after they lost power and students were given the choice to stay or leave. They moved the students who did stay to a central location on campus and they kept the website updated on what was happening. Like you I was watching the news and contacted my daughter to make sure she was ready for the storm. Charge cell phone, lap top and have her flashlight handy. She called the next day and said that they could stay or leave that classes were canceled. Being from Northern IL she decided to drive home, and brought her room mate with. I spoke with her today and she is getting ready for the storm. Hopefully they won't wait till the last minute this year to make a decision on whether to cancel classes. Just keep looking to the website for information and communicating with your student.

Thanks for the information. Maybe TODAY they will go ahead and make the decision to cancel classes for tomorrow so the kids won't be trying to get home on icy, snow covered roads after class tomorrow. When I spoke with my daughter last night she said only one professor had said they may cancel class on Friday.

My daughter found out Wednesday that her Friday classes were canceled (she only has 2 on Friday). I suppose the instructor was preparing ahead and being cautious. So she's headed home today after class. She comes home most weekends, but was planning to stay down there this weekend until the weather forecast...she didn't want to get stuck there especially if they had a power outage. We only live about 2 1/2 hours away.

That sounds good! I am waiting to hear from my daughter now to see if her classes have been cancelled for in the morning. She has three classes on Friday mornings.
