Faculty Recital set for Sept. 24
The music department at Murray State University will present the annual Faculty Showcase Recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 in the Performing Arts Hall, located in the Doyle Fine Arts Building. The Faculty Showcase Recital is a fundraiser for music department scholarships. Donations will be accepted at the door. Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
This popular event is designed to introduce new and returning music faculty to the university community. The Showcase Recital will feature solo and ensemble performances involving 19 faculty and guest artists. New faculty members Sue-Jean Park, violin; Emily Wasson, clarinet; Bret Smithey, bass-baritone; and Todd Hill, piano, will be featured. Returning faculty will be John Hill, percussion; Richard Scott, piano; Stephen Brown, piano; A. Matthew Mazzoni, piano; Stephanie Rea, flute; John Dressler, horn; Scott Erikson, oboe; Sonya Gabrielle Baker, soprano; Elizabeth Johnson, mezzo-soprano; Randall Black, tenor; and Eric Swisher, trumpet. Special guest performers in the afternoon concert will be Scott Thile, double bass; Nancy Steffa, viola; Laura Hill, cello; and Matthew Morris, bassoon.
Composers represented among the various works on the program include C.P.E. Bach, Chopin, Schumann, Mozart, Gounod, Steffa and Offenbach. The largest piece on the program in terms of number of personnel will be the “Quintet for Piano, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Horn” by Mozart.
