B.E. S.A.F.E. Week events ongoing
According to statistics, one in four women will be sexually assaulted on a college campus, and one in seven men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. The Women's Center of Murray State University is fighting these numbers in their annual B.E. S.A.F.E. week, held this year from Sept. 25-Oct. 2.
A series of events and speakers have been scheduled as part of the B.E. S.A.F.E. Week, which stands for Be Educated about a Sexual Assault-Free Environment. Throughout the entire week, informational tables will be set up in the Curris Center for browsing. On Tuesday at 7 p.m., in the Freed-Curd Auditorium, a mock trial will be held. Murray State's Mock Trial Team will perform the trial titled, “No Witness.”
From 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday in the Freed-Curd Auditorium, the film, No Visible Bruises, will be shown, followed by a panel discussion.
Thursday's event, sponsored by the Residential College Association and presented by MSU HEAT, will be the play, Are You Afraid of the Dark?. The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in Faculty Hall Room 208.
On Friday, the Women's Center is sponsoring White Ribbon Day. Members of Murray State athletics and fraternities will be passing out white ribbons at the Curris Center from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
B.E. S.A.F.E. Week's events will conclude on Monday, Oct. 2, with the pinwheel project in the Quad from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Following the pinwheel project, the Take Back the Night program and candlelight march will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the steps of Lovett Auditorium. The march will conclude in the Curris Center Listening Lounge, where the opening ceremony for the Clothesline Project will be held.
