Social Media/Networking Dilemma and Summer…

May 4th, 2009

Hello All –

Congratulations on the successful completion of another semester. As we enter Finals Week and the end of the semester, I wanted to gather your opinion with what will likely be my last post of the semester—before taking a little break through the summer as I have done each year.

There have been quite a few loyal readers and faithful posters on my blog over the last two years. While I enjoy this medium as a mechanism to better connect with folks on campus, I am thinking about setting aside the blog and moving to Facebook and/or Twitter to accomplish this same purpose.  With the emergence of Twitter and the continued amazing growth of Facebook, do you think it makes sense for me to move from the blog to these two social networking sites when I crank things back up at the end of the summer?

I would try to do the blog…plus Facebook…plus Twitter…but I just don’t think I have the time for everything, so I am thinking about changing it up in this fashion.

Please let me know what you think the pros and cons are for a move to one or both of the services mentioned above.

Additionally, I wish you a safe, fulfilling, and restful summer. For those graduating, keep in touch with your alma mater—and for those returning in the fall, we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Rise of the Machines (well, at least online services)

March 30th, 2009

Hello all – The “Terminator” reference might be too old for you, but with the death of RacerTouch lurking around the corner, and myGate springing to life for Fall 2009 registration, what are the things that are most critical for you (students, faculty, and staff) to access online? As we continue to build, develop, and customize myGate to meet your needs, what are things that would benefit you the most moving forward from a daily operations stand point as well as a personal standpoint?

I expect some useful, as well as creative answers here…
