Hello All –
A little over a year ago, March 14, 2007, we discussed the issue of parking and shuttles on this blog. There was healthy dialogue, over 30 posts. Well, after a University-wide parking and transportation survey, some MSU News editorials, and a sample shuttle program, we are again weighing our options and interested in your input.
As you may have read in the MSU News last week, the University is seriously considering implementing a parking shuttle program that would operate two routes simultaneously with a hub at the Curris Center. The Blue route would do the north half of campus, the Residential Colleges and the stadium parking lot. The Gold route would surround the academic side of campus from Chestnut, by White and Regents, around Main St. and back to the Curris Center.
To be clear, this would not be a additional fee for students, and it would not be taking money from other areas of the University. This proposed service would be funded out monies presently in the parking fee account.
I am interested in the following:
- What days of the week, and how late at night should the shuttles run? We are looking at weekdays only to contain costs, maybe from around 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
- Would you consider using the free shuttle from the parking lots farther away, eliminating the pressure to find a spot on campus?
- Or, should we just scrap the shuttle idea completely and let everyone walk?
I look forward to hearing from you.
